You know, I try to keep working on stuff to keep me busy but the more I do the less I complete. My resolution is to lessen the amount of projects, not just do 1 project at a time, but not quite as many. Maybe then I will have a higher percentage of completion.

I just love my girl so much! We went to UCA today to take care of administrative paperwork and such. Anytime she goes to school with me she has to visit the fountain. She is such a happy child and is so excited to learn! What a wondrous Lord we have to give me the opportunity to be this angel's father!

Flickr's Many Functions, My New Website, and Matt Kloskowski's Great Idea

Forget Myspace or Facebook or even Photobucket for image storage, Flickr is so much more and then some!

Since joining Flickr I've become hooked. No, it's not a blog, technically, but if you express yourself through design or photography, then it is more than a blog. It's a blog, portfolio and image storage site all rolled into one. It has become a daily if not hourly stop for me on the internet. You can add contacts and keep up with those contacts' updates from one easy to read and follow homepage.

My new portfolio site is up and running with a little help from NETTUTS. They (Collis Ta'eed and Sean Hodge) have energized my education and understanding of CSS and XHTML. I've known HTML for the last 10 years at least but have never grasped the power of CSS and using [div]'s instead of [table]'s (you in the web development world know exactly what I mean). I've also used CSS-Tricks to learn more about it. Anyway, I've added a Flickr feed directly into the sidebar of my page design and I love it.

Next, Matt Kloskowski, one of the Photoshop Guys, was the guest blogger today on Scott Kelby's Blog. Matt had the idea of redesigning or even creating new dialogs inside Photoshop CS3. He wants other PS users to jump in with their ideas as well. He created a Flickr Group called Photoshop Dialogs so others can add images of their ideas to the group. I created a quick one, one that jumped into my head immediately, for offering a live preview when using the displace filter. Click on the group name above to check it out. If you're not a member of Flickr, now is the time to join in on this fantastic resource. Trust me, you'll love it!

While attending the 2008 CMA Music Festival in Nashville, TN I had the pleasure of meeting and getting a picture taken with Hollywood Yates. Yates is better known to the television audience as Wolf, from the new American Gladiators. Cool Guy!!

I stumbled upon photos on Flickr from the Library of Congress. There are several thousand images to look at. Very interesting stuff! This is just one of them here. What were they wearing?

What is the Library of Congress?
We serve as the national library for the United States, based in Washington, DC. With more than 134 million items preserved on some 530 miles of bookshelves, we're also the world's largest library.In addition to books, we have photos, maps, databases, movies, sound recordings, sheet music, manuscripts, and information in many other formats. Millions of items are online, and the full array of collections is available in DC, right across from the U.S. Capitol building.

What are photographs doing in a library?

We've been acquiring photos since the mid-1800s when photography was the hot new technology. Because images represent life and the world so vividly, people have long enjoyed exploring our visual collections. Looking at pictures opens new windows to understanding both the past and the present. Favorite photos are often incorporated in books, TV shows, homework assignments, scholarly articles, family histories, and much more. The Prints & Photographs Division takes care of 14 million of the Library's pictures and features more than 1 million through online catalogs. Offering historical photo collections through Flickr is a welcome opportunity to share some of our most popular images more widely.

Back to School!

Well, the first week back to school is about over. I was readmitted to the University of Central Arkansas after about 4 years away and am planning on completing my degree (BA in Graphic Design) by the Fall of 2009. This semester consists of World Literature II and Graphic Design IV. World Literature II I have put off since I began my college career in the fall of 1998. I was never a reader, and sure didn't like the interpretation of literature. However, since I left college I now have 2 children, a wife, a dog, a house, a responsibility, etc... My motivation and dedication level are far greater than that of a single 22 year old. I wrote a Haiku that the professor didn't laugh at.

"Hopes, dreams, we do yearn
Not always do they come true
Like a stone through glass."

As for Graphics IV; this is going to really challenge my creation process. I worked in the field for 4 years while at Conway Copies. The type of work created there was more along the lines of corporate/business identity, brochure/mailings, logos, etc... The instructor, Ray Ogar, uses a more artistic approach to graphic design. His process starts with thought, of course, but is much more indepth than my two previous instructors for Graphics I, II, and III. His style is also different than the others, and different than me. I'm looking forward to this new approach/style but am also nervous. I want to achieve a good grade and it's going to be difficult.

...ex-Falcons, ex-Louisville, and, given his past record, soon-to-be ex-Arkansas Head Coach Bobby Petrino. He was recently hired amongst a weary Razorback fan base. What can we expect from Petrino? After all, he went 41-9 with Louisville from 2003-2006.

How much will he make? I'm confident that it'll be more than they offered Houston to sit tight... update: $2.85 Million...

"The disingenuous drifter doesn't love you or any other fan base. He doesn't love any school or any NFL franchise. He loves himself, his playbook and his bank account."

We'll see how far this goes. I hope for UofA's sake that he proves me wrong!

Create Your Custom "End Zone" Victory Dance

CocaCola Zero has a very clever Flash-based productivity killer, which lets you upload your headshot, scale and crop it, then it puts it on the body of a football player (as seen above). Then you get to custom design an End Zone celebratory victory dance. It’s called the Victory Dance Choreographer and it’s hilarious. Very cleverly done and once it’s complete (it just takes one minute), you can email the final dance movie to a friend. Take a minute or two and check this out. Houston D. Nutt and the U of A confirmed today that the Nutt coaching era is officially over. Nutt turned down a $2.4 million annual salary to remain head coach for the Hogs.

"Deep, deep down in my heart as an Arkansan, as person who loves the Razorbacks so much, [I wanted] for the state to come together as one," Nutt said. "At this time, I didn't think we could have one heartbeat."

I couldn't be more proud to be a Razorback fan! LSU played an honorable game but this victory is oh so sweet.

This picture is the design on the latest "rub-it-in" shirt available at the Hogwired.com shop. I've heard many say it's rude and inconsiderate to LSU...WHAT?!?!!? This is what the SEC is all about! Next year LSU will be coming with their A-game again and we'll be battling it out once again but on our home turf. (Hopefully in Little Rock)

D-Mac rushed for a total of 1725 yards during regular season and passed for another 123 yards. Felix Jones wasn't far behind 1117 total rushing yards.

During this special holiday I have so much to be thankful for. I have a loving wife, two exceptional children, my own house, a career I enjoy, supportive parents, and I can't forget my dog, Jake.

I'm grateful for my son, Christian, overcoming a respiratory infection that landed him his 1st hospital visit. I was reminded just how tough infants can be, and how wimpy dad can be. Stacie and I didn't like Christian be poked and prodded with needles for IV fluids. He was discharged after spending approx. 34 hours in the hospital.

I'm happy to report that he's back to normal and growing like a weed. Last weigh-in was 21lbs 2ozs. He's really starting to get tall!

TF2 and me...

I'm working nights until the end of the year so on my 3 days off I'm up all night. If I'm not going through my list of daily blog visits or doing tutorials for graphics, I'm probably playing Team Fortress 2.

I was first in line to get the Orange Box and played the Beta long before the official release. This game is so much more fun than the original TFC and far more advanced. It uses the Source engine which makes gameplay great. The characters have character whether they're physically taunting the other players or shouting one-liners after making a kill.

If you're interested in joining the fun, download Steam (the software that powers and organizes the game bundle) and prepare for the addiction.

My first blog!

I have decided to start a blog to replace Myspace; not that I have a problem with $500 Macy's gift cards or "no strings attached" ringtones. I plan on posting some type of interesting web discoveries or perfectly good time wasters on a daily or every other day basis. I'll be featuring websites that I visit often for inspiration/direction related to graphic design and photography.

Today's featured page is my friend and professional photographer Richard Ryerson's Flickr site. Richard has been a close friend of mine for over 20 years. We've done a lot of crazy things together and probably should've gotten into trouble for them. Anyway, Richard is all grown up now and is truly an amazing photographer for his age. Being a member of NAPP I have been introduced to the work of some world-famous photographers such as Jay Maisel, Joe McNally and Scott Kelby to name a few... I can easily see Richard being one of those I just mentioned by the time he has aged comparatively if not sooner.
